TO SUM UP LIFE (MAYBE)
TO SUM UP LIFE (MAYBE)
"I used to think this was the beginning of your story, but now I'm not so sure I believe in beginnings or endings. There are days that define your story beyond your life."
I'm here to tell you a very interesting story.
Get your popcorns ready🍿. Here we go...
It's the story of a boy. A boy who always thought that we was weird.. a WEIRDOO to be very specific. He saw things that couldn't be explained to others. He saw shadows. He saw dreams. Dreams that turned out to be true. The first memory he has is going to kindergarten school and asking a girl, "Why are your hairs burned?" That was the first time he ever saw someone with curly hairs. Lol.
Days passed and he never enjoyed his school. Then he met a friend. A friend who later become his oldest friend.. till now. Years passed. That boy never stopped being curious. He always asked the stupidest questions. Once he asked his computer sciences teacher, "What is computer, ma'am?" And for asking this question, she humiliated him so much that he lost the will to ask questions. Years passed and all he thinks about all the time is "Why things are the way they are?" And he lost himself in that process. Nothing seemed interesting to him anymore. Life felt meaningless. He started reading books. He read a lot. A LOTTT. He found something very deep about life. Which is, the path of a bear. The path he oathed to take. He learned that people are never going to understand what he thinks, so it's better to not speak about anything. He built walls and protected them. He became resentful towards life. He felt betrayed from the world.
One day he joined a group of people; people he observed and learned a lot from. He made a friend or more. He opened the walls around him. Made promises. And shared his world view. But it made him useless.
Lesson Learnt: People are Bad.
Me: NOOOOOO...
You: BUT WHY WEIRDOO?
Me: BECAUSE..
The thing is that if you just had one bad experience, doesn't mean that the whole world is bad. Humans are odd. It's true. Very true. They are selfish at their very core, and so are we. We are just survival machines. Feelings, emotions and sentiments mean nothing in the grand scheme of events. What seems like a victory can sometimes lead to a defeat you would never be able to stand up from.
Now, let's get back to the quote a mentioned in the start.
In the movie Arrival 2016, Louise gets to talk to aliens that can speak a language. A language which has no start and no end. It's symbols in circles. They are palindromes (sound same if you read it backwards).
The movie starts with Louise having flashbacks of a life in which she has a daughter who dies of cancer. But she never understood what those flashbacks actually meant. Then she got into contacts with those aliens. Learned their langauge. Learned to see the future. Still choose to live the live where she'd get married and have a daughter and see her dying in her own hands.
I know I know .. you must be thinking that she loved her daughter that's why she choose to have her. Right?
Well, I also thought like that.. but in the last few months I've come to this realization that I was completely and utterly wrong.
In the same movie, there's a line of Louise which goes like this:
"Despite Knowing the Journey and Where It Leads, I Embrace It and Welcome Every Moment of it."
I thought about it and later understood what she was trying to express. She even asked this question to Ian.
"If you could see your whole life from start to finish; would you change things?"
To this he replies,
"Maybe I'd say what I feel more often.. I don't know !!"
In all our lives, we always think about doing the right thing, taking the right path, playing it safe. Even when our actions might hurt others. We still choose to what we choose to do. It wasn't love that compelled Louise to choose that live, it was her HUMANITY. Our humanity, the element of being a human. Even when we know things might hurt us and we'll suffer; we still choose it. That's what being a human is. Choosing what we choose, because our choices are the biggest illusions we have told to ourselves.
Louise understood one thing that we all would never, which is:
Is it better to have had a good thing and lost it, than never to have had it?
I chose the path that Louise took.
TO HAVE SOMETHING GOOD AND LOST IT.
I embrace it and welcome every moment of it.
For me, this is what sums up life, atleast this is what I want to believe.
Because, in the end, the whole life becomes an act of letting go.
